From Creative to Corporate and back again!!
A little bit about me…
I have a degree in Textile Design that I got a VERY LONG TIME AGO when Photoshop didn’t even exist!! After graduating, fate (and a lack of money) decided I wasn’t going to be designing Textiles any time soon and I found myself in the corporate world for the next twenty years.
During that time I held various sales, business development and key account management roles in multinational companies in academic publishing, financial services, service industry and finally the FMCG sector. I built up that extremely valuable commercial and corporate business experience in both the UK and Spain where I have been based for the last 26 years.
In 2014, I quit the corporate world and looked for something that would allow me to combine my creative skills and business experience. I’ve always been passionate about communicating things visually, and will often resort to a doodle to get my point across. Then I discovered the world of graphic recording and sketchnoting and realised I could actually make a living doing this. Not long after I started my first business ‘Think Doodly’ providing Visual Storytelling services to companies, NGO’s, event organisers…
You can ready the full story of this amazing discovery here!
Since then, my work has taken me across Europe and as far afield as the USA and Rwanda. In 2020, just before the pandemic, I moved from Madrid to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. After enduring 21 scorching summers in Madrid, I wanted to live by the sea in a more forgiving climate. Las Palmas was an ideal choice - not only do I maintain excellent connections to major European cities, but subsidised flights to the mainland often make travel cheaper than from Madrid to other parts of Spain, ensuring minimal disruption to attending events. I can also do sport outside 365 days a year, making the decision a bit of a no brainer!
In 2023 I decided to rebrand my business from Think Doodly to Verity.Ink. Having quite an unusual name meant that people remembered me more by my own name than by my business name, and I liked the play on words. I also wanted to move away from a name that sounded a little frivolous and was sometimes associated to companies that I didn’t align with
Working in both Spanish and English, my blend of creative training and corporate experience places me in a unique position. Creatively, I deliver engaging, sense-making tools that are both visually appealing and effective in creating clarity. From a business perspective, I have a solid understanding of the corporate environment and its commercial considerations. and the dynamics between departments and the importance of fluid communication. I am quick to get to the heart of the problem, find the connections and produce visual solutions that are going to facilitate conversations and aid with decision making.
It’s fair to say I’ve taken a circuitous route to get to where I am today and I think that’s a good thing. It means I have a unique perspective on the world and this helps in my work. I love being able to combine all of this experience to be able to provide something meaningful for my clients as they come from many sectors and many countries… adaptability is my superpower.
Ahhh, and when I’m not drawing for clients, you’ll find me drawing for me!! I post some of my sketchbook work on instagram (take a look below). And to counteract all the time I sit at my desk drawing, I’ve got two rescue galgos 🐕 🐕 to get me out of the house and I like to do a fair bit of sport, competing occasionally with my triathlon team. 🏊🏼♀️ 🚴🏼♀️ 🏃🏼♀️
