10 Years of turning words into pictures!

2024 is the year I celebrate…
10 years as a Live Illustrator and Visual Storyteller.
TEN YEARS!!! OMG!!
2014 was the year that my creative design background and my 20+ years of commercial business experience got married👰🏼🤵🏽♂️ and had a baby 👶🏼 and I began a new career as a Graphic Recorder. So I’m going to be sharing a some of my experiences over the next few months.
It’s been quite a ride so far!!
I started out just doing large scale paper graphic recording, hauling my paper and markers across Europe .. and even across the pond to the US on occasion. Then as more and more clients asked me to help communicate their stories in engaging ways, I quickly added rich picture Illustrations and explainer animations to my box of tricks.
Fast forward to 2020 and the pandemic when the world of graphic recording and live illustration had to evolve at breakneck speed. Going digital and remote was the only option to survive. Thankfully all the rich pictures and explainers helped me as I was already working digitally and I actually ended up giving digital drawing skills workshops to my fellow graphic recorders (that’s when I started teaching) and now post pandemic I’m doing much more digital live illustration than large scale paper graphics. I still love getting my hands covered in ink but there are benefits on so many levels to having a digital live illustration.

🌿🌎 It is so much better for the planet - no plastic marker pen waste, no paper, no foam core boards (I have a no foam core policy)
📺 There’s a real WOW factor to sharing the graphic on the big screen during the event - It can be flashed up at different times during the day - or it can be projected in real time and people see the magic happening before their eyes. It’s up to you!
✍🏼 Edits on the go - you can’t cmd-Z on a piece of paper (although believe me I’ve tried… pinching to zoom doesn’t work either!!)
📥 Digital graphics are easier to edit and share and you can choose which bits you want to share.
🎨 The graphics can be produced in your company colours
🧑🏼💻 I can work in person in the room, and also remotely beaming in from the comfort of my home - which makes it a really planet and budget friendly option.
🎞 You get a really cool time-lapse animation of the final graphic (like the one below) that you can share with attendees, on social media, in your annual report.. wherever you like!
💪🏼 And this extra bit of flex means that you can have someone like me live illustrating not just big old events but also shorter hybrid meetings and webinars - I can be anywhere you need me to be - so long as there is a connection! Actually - I don’t need that either as sometimes I will capture the session after it has taken place. Even better still!!
