Making Time for a Creative Pause
Hello there lovely people!
You may remember my last blog post where I talked about the creative act and the healing power of making art .. (it was many moons ago now…), and my desire to create a space for people to just show up and do something creative. Well I finally did it!!
Last week I hosted my first ‘Creative Pause’ session. A virtual permission slip to spend an hour doing something creative.
From the Pacific North West to a remote island off the West Coast of Scotland, a sunny island off the West Coast of Africa to New York, Barcelona and Amsterdam, the inaugural session was an intimate little gathering of strangers (for some) and I think it hit the spot.
When I decided to open this virtual creative space I wasn’t really sure how it would pan out, I didn’t want to make the session too structured - it wasn’t going to be a ‘how to’ - and there was just one very simple (and very broad) prompt which was entirely optional.
From that simple prompt we finished the session with:
📖 A poem
📝 A list of obsessions
🌊 A whimsical illustration of a naked little man jumping into inky blue seas
🕊 Memories of a walk for peace,
🖼 A beautiful, tension releasing drawing of a favourite tree and bench
🐳 A pop-up card in progress with cut out whale tales and fishes.
It was wonderful to spend that lovely hour with fellow creative souls, a couple went so far to say that it was healing - which is what I was hoping for. Doing something creative is a fantastic way to calm the nervous system - it’s the perfect way to disconnect from the non stop news cycle of horrific news.
The feedback was so positive I’m planning to run it again. You can find more information by hitting the button below.
I’m keeping the group size small - max. 10-12 people. That gives us a chance to connect and share.
I’d love to see you there!
